Many people who experienced abuse were silenced by the abuser, they were threatened of what may happen if they disclosed. This could be a verbal threat or unspoken, if this happened to you, you may have just known what the consequences could be if you spoke up.
Abuse leaves you feeling damaged, unworthy, broken, and wrong. You were not the one who is damaged. The person who perpetrated the abuse was on some level damaged and it was transferred to you and maybe this became part of your identity. This is not who you are, this is the SYMPTOMS OF ABUSE!
The impacts of abuse are devastating unless healed. Here are some of the ways it may impact you:
The fear and terror keep your voice locked up
You keep the secrets, the energy of what happened gets locked into your body
You find it hard to identify and verbalize what you are feeling
You feel ashamed of what happened. Maybe you feel like it is your fault. THIS IS NOT THE TRUTH!
Not speaking about what happened holds you hostage to the abuse. Keeping the secret locks the abuse into your body, the secret is not yours to keep.
I will be delving deeper into this topic on Unblocking Your Voice: Breaking the Silence of Abuse on March 31st
